Once a year, the best teams throughout the great state of Texas converge on Austin to prove, once and for all, which group of singers are the grandmasters of the art we call karaoke! Now they will be doing so at The Highball on January 24, 2010!

Eight teams, comprised of those who have won a division of the National Karaoke League in the 2009 calendar year and those wild card teams savvy enough to win their way through the wildcard tourney, battle it out for immortal glory on the Highball stage–and of course, a really big effing trophy.

We’ll have three rounds of competition, one solo round, one karaoke roulette round (in which the singers don’t know what they’ll be singing until they take the stage), and one group round that will decide the winners. They will be judged by an elite group of three celebrity judges who will both rate the teams, and, in the karaoke roulette round, wield the terrifying and performance-ending gong.

Any team of at least 4 people may earn a spot in the Showdown by competing in the Wild Card round on January 10th. Interested teams should email admin@nationalkaraokeleague.com starting December 20th with a roster of their team members and e-mail addresses, and the songs they wish to perform for the solo and group rounds. ONLY THE FIRST EIGHT TEAMS TO ENTER WILL GET TO COMPETE IN THE WILD CARD COMPETITION. Songs are also first come, first served
