Do you think you have what it takes to be a karaoke champion? Have you always wondered what it feels like to belt it out to a crowd of adoring fans? This Sunday at the Highball, it’s your chance to find out.

The National Karaoke League will be hosting a Wild Card Tournament this Sunday, January 10th, starting at 10 pm for any karaoke team that wants a shot at a spot in the Texas Karaoke Showdown on January 24th (also at the Highball.) This preliminary tournament will pit up to eight karaoke teams against each other across three rounds of competition, including one solo round, one karaoke roulette round (in which the singers don’t know what they’ll be singing until they take the stage), and one group round. They will be judged by an elite group of three celebrity judges who will both rate the teams, and, in the karaoke roulette round, wield the terrifying and performance-ending gong. The two teams with the highest scores at the end of the night will earn a spot in the 2010 Texas Karaoke Showdown, where they will face off against teams that have won a division of the National Karaoke League in Texas in 2009 and have a chance at immortal glory, as well as a huge freaking trophy.

Any team of at least 4 people may sign up for the Wild Card Tournament. Interested teams should email admin@nationalkaraokeleague.com starting December 20th with a roster of their team members and e-mail addresses, and the songs they wish to perform for the solo and group rounds. ONLY THE FIRST EIGHT TEAMS TO ENTER WILL GET TO COMPETE IN THE WILD CARD COMPETITION. Songs are also first come, first served
